analysing your song

Target audience: Age
For my artists song there has a specific age group in which the artists aims there music video to, this age group would be from the age 27 to the the age of about 31 years old, this is due to the genre of music in which the artist creates in this case RNB which i believe this target audience will enjoy and relate to most. Another aspect which could would lead to this age group being the target market would be the age of the artist which is similar to the age of the target group which would allow the audience to relate to the song and himself as an artist better and establish a relationship between themselves as an audience and the artist himself as they are both of a similar age group.

Target audience gender
The target audience gender wise would be for both genders male and females, the song would appeal to both genders the genre is one that i believe that both genders would enjoy and relate to the narrative within the song can be universally relate-able  with both genders as both genders could have gone through similar things to what happened within the song as the song is about a relationship that has broken up and the guy trying to win the girl back and re establish a relationship with her the audience would be able to relate to it.There is no clear target market for them it does not specifically appeal to one target market gender wise there for the gender target would be able to successfully market to both genders.

Target audience interests
The interest of the audience would be this type of genre of music in the RNB Genre which have a slow subtle pace to them, the music genre would appeal to people with a passion for this genre and who are interested in certain instruments within the song such as guitars and pianos, the song would need to do certain things to appeal to their targets interests in order to create and sustain a strong audience and artist relationship in order to appeal and sell their songs, singles and albums to their audience.

Target audience Location
The target audience for my artist as well as his style and genre of music would be within the London area in and around various parts of London, the artist himself is from London which would help to establish a connection between him and his audience being that he is from London could allow his music to be more relate able for his audience as they share the same background and could have maybe shared the same experience which is being told through the songs video and lyrics. This bond and or relationship would enhance the audiences viewing pleasure and bond with the artist and his brand which he is attached to which in the long run could help him to increase his sales of his singles albums or merchandise.

Target Audience Ethnicity
With my artist song being a genre which can be appreciated by a wide range of audience I do not think that the target audience is heavily set to one gender specifically, this song and many of his other songs would be able to reach and appeal to a range of ethnicities as opposed to one ethnic group. The genre of music is widely popular between any ethnic groups and the lyrics can be interpreted in a similar way the song is about a break up between the artist and his girlfriend which everyone could go through regardless of their ethnic group knowing this the song would appeal to any ethnic groups with large success with sales of albums singles and merchandise it is not heavily based to certain ethnic groups

Below this are the lyrics to the song which I have chosen to select for my music video it is broken down verse by verse and chorus by chorus

Verse one
Sometimes I feel like you’re going to drive me crazy girl,
Out of my mind I just can’t calm my nerves it seems that you know just how to get me angry.
I holler at you baby you tell me you’re sorry and say that you love me but this time it’s not like usual
I know there’s something going on I know you’re not the same I know you like I know my name,
It seems like I hurt you it’s not hard to see I think I’ve gone too far I have to tell you girl

Chorus
I never meant to make you cry I hate to see tears in your eyes. Ill apologize for them words I’ve been saying I just don’t know what I’m doing I’m just a man, you know I’m sorry If I hurt you, you know I didn’t mean to ill apologize for them words I’ve been saying for all of those things oh please stop crying dry your eyes turn those cries into a smile forget about those nasty things I’m never going to say again you know me.

Verse 2
I know what you feel never meant to hurt you girl
It’s the last time please believe my words
My baby you know you’re everything to me
I’m realising what I say I must be crazy
And lady I’m so sorry I apologise
I know that’s all you want
I know I shouldn't be so hard
Baby I know you’re not the same
I know you like I know my name
It seems like I hurt you it’s not hard to see
 I wish I hadn't gone so far
That’s why I tell you I’m sorry girl

3rd verse
Sometimes a man don’t know how to act with a warning a hard game
I know that I messed up yeah that’s a shame
I won’t do that again no in not playing a game
I think you know why I don’t want lose you baby
You're the only one and I’ll say it again

Chorus
I never meant to make you cry I hate to see tears in your eyes. Ill apologize for them words I’ve been saying I just don’t know what I’m doing I’m just a man, you know I’m sorry If I hurt you, you know I didn't mean to ill apologize for them words I’ve been saying for all of those things oh please stop crying dry your eyes turn those cries into a smile forget about those nasty things I’m never going to say again you know me you know me yes you know me I apologise

Analysing the lyrics
From the lyrics we can see many things which are traditional within this genre are apparant within the lyrics which make Soul and RNB unique to other genres of music. The lyrics express emotions of the artist about his break up from his partner the lyrics express that he is feeling lonely and abandoned and upset which are seen and heard through the way the artist is singing and through the lyrics. This storyline is apparent in most RNB and soul songs which helps to establish and convey which genre of music it is for the audience which helps to set an audience to appeal to making it easier for the artist as well as the audience. After having listened to the lyrics from the song which I chose to do I believe that the age range which this song would be aimed at would be from the age of 27-32 year old the style of music I believe would be best suited to this age group as it is in between the young and older audience which is a suitable age gap for the audience the style of music would be best suited to this music and genre of music and artist.

Analysing the music
The music is a nice calm relaxing style of music it is very slow paced and mellow which suits the genre which is soul and RNB, the song and music makes the artist feel sad whilst also feeling relaxed it sets off a mix of emotions of sadness calmness and mellowness, the song is not very upbeat it sounds very downbeat and slow paced it gives the audience a sense of relaxation and also gives them a flow of emotions when they listen to the song it is a song that the audience would play to themselves when they are alone it is not a song which would be played at say a party or social gathering due to the genre and the type of song it is being that it is slow and mellow it wouldn't really stand out at parties but the tempo and sound of it matches the genre well

Analyzing the tempo
This songs tempo begins slow paced and carried on being slow paced until the chorus where it was a bit faster paced but not a whole lot faster the tempo makes this type of song very calming and soothing for the audience to listen to the tempo of the song I heard was quite slow paced and calming, the tempo matches the lyrics of the song, the lyrics connote a love story and a break up which a slow tempo would be best for the tempo matches the situation which is taking place through not only the lyrics but the video too it gives a relaxing consistent feel to the song as well as to the song it balances the song out really well.

How I would use this to make a music video
I would use a number of element to turn this into a music video I would make the video illustrate and emphasize the lyrics which also gives the audience a clear and easy to follow narrative, I would use some voyeurism to play the artists girlfriend which he broke up with to gain more of the male viewing figures for the music video I would use a music video which helps to amplify the lyric to the song for I would have him in low lit areas and empty alleyways to connote his feeling of emptiness about him breaking up with his girlfriend

Creating my artist's identity

1.Solo Soul R&b Artist
Artist name
My artist which i have chosen name is solo
Artist Age
The artist i have chosen to use was born in 1981, he is 32 years of age and unsigned.
Artist gender
The artist i have chosen to use for my media project is a male soul and RNB artist
Ethnicity
My artist is a white male originated from France
Birthplace and location
He was born in France
Background
He was born in France within the poorer parts, he was quite low down within society and lived with his foreigner parents, he became attracted to the urban culture that was born a few years before he was born this was known as Hip Hop. In his teenage years he developed a taste for soul music which he just found.
Record label
The artist which I have chosen is not currently signed to a record label.
why did i choose the artist
I chose to choose this artist as i like the genre of music he makes it suits the genre of music video i am going to be filming, his tone of voice would be easy to replicate with either me or another student within the school there are many people which could do his voice as it does not have many distinguishing features it is a simple easy voice to use.
Typography
The typography I would use for my artist would be as below because it is a soul and rnb singer so it is meant to be simple and effective and clear to read. It has nice clear colors that go together well and create a nice mellow feel for the audience this matches the style of music which my artists creates.

clothing
The clothing which I will use will have to relate to the music genre he sings too, it must connote a soul and RNB type of artist to the audience. I have chosen to make my artist wear blue stone washed jeans which give him a cool and calm look which connotes his music style, also i will give my artist a leather jacket which will unzipped it creates an image of the genre of music he makes it connotes that he makes RNB and soul songs, the song is quite mellow and slow which is why i have gone fore a mellow look when choosing his clothing that he will wear during the music video i will also have him wearing a short sleeved shirt under the jacket. These items of clothing connote a mellow artist which matches the genre of music which he creates which is slow and mellow and calm.

colors
I have chosen to use quite dark and less luminous colours, this is because the artists song is slow and quite sad it contains lyrics which are very deep and meaningful, so i would have to use quite dark and simple colours, such as blue which represents sadness and emotion i would have him standing in places which are mostly blue with low brightness, for example he would have a lot of shots in a room with low lighting maybe just one corner lamp on in the corner to connote his sadness to the audience when i create the music video the colors match the feel and emotion of the song as well as song genre which makes it clearer for the audience to establish his genre. In the second picture we can see a person in a place where it looks like a shade of blue it helps to connote his sadness as we can see the person is looking and feeling sad within the picture below.

Mise en scene
My artist is a soul and RNB artist and so i need to use a place which will reflect and connote this, i will use mostly areas which are quite deserted cause the song is about him being alone because he just went through a break up so this will connote the song and add emphasis on the video for the audience, it helps to reflect the emotions of the song and the meaning of the song towards the audience. The picture below shows a deserted alleyway which the artist could be standing into to connote that he feels alone or deserted.

Goodwins ideas about music videos

who is Goodwin what were his ideas and where did he publish his ideas?

Andrew Goodwin was a man who came up with a theory about music videos he identified 6 key aspects about music video about what we as the audience should look out for. His ideas suggested that music videos use these techniques to help focus the attention onto the artist and the music industry. He stated that music videos use many different techniques to do this, Iconography which is the use of certain images or visuals, star persona, voyeurism amplifying and contradicting, intertextuality. He published all of his ideas about music videos within his book that he had written, "Dancing in the distraction factory"

Illustrating
This technique is where the artist and music industry make the video deliberately correspond to the lyrics, what is happening within the video is what is being said within the lyrics. many music videos use this technique the most popular one is when the artist looks in a mirror and states that he/she is staring into a mirror, they use this image to make it look as if the artist is looking at them selves and their past and trying to reflect on themselves. In the music video by Eminem "when i'm gone" they use this technique in one shot of the video the artist Eminem states that he is standing looking in the mirror which the video corresponds to. At 3.03 of the song we can see where they have used this technique in order to convey him looking at himself and his past which relates back to the story being told throughout the music video. The audience feels more connected to the artist as they are able to see what he is doing in comparison to the lyrics, it also makes the music video more appealing as well as giving it a narrative which the audience is able to follow and in some cases relate to for example they can relate to his rocky relationship with his wife and family they can also relate to how his work is taking over his family life and how his family is unhappy with him constantly going on tours and working 24 hours a day.

Amplifying
This is a technique where the music video tries to emphasis the mood and tempo of the song for example if the song is a rock band which is seen as violent and fast paced then the music video would  be full of low lit areas containing really violent scenes such as mosh pits of audiences onto the stage where they are singing. many artists use this such as slipknot, in most of their music videos the songs are quite violent and aggressive and very crazy, the video usually always connote this and help to amplify the feeling of the song to the audience. For example within their music video "duality" the tempo and feel of the song is fast paced and crazy and very aggressive and expressive  for example at which is backed up by the video which contains scenes which connote this such as moshpits 0.27,seconds and  of people, people vandalising stuff  0.31 baseball bats weapons 0.37 , it is shot in a broken down house where everyone goes mental which suits the tempo of the song. The video below is the song by the rock band slipknot which contains scenes to suit the song and tempo. This helps the audience to establish what genre the song is it also makes the music video more exciting and fun it helps the video by backing up the genre and making it more exciting and atmospheric for the audience.

Iconography
This technique is when the music video uses certain images and visuals used within the music video that relate to that specific genre of music, for example within a rap music video the things which make it iconic are the cars the women and money, it helps to connote the genre of music video to the audience theses things within the music video make that specific genre iconic for the audience. For example within the music video by ace hood "bugatti" we can see many of these elements which make this iconic of a rap music video it also establishes the genre of music video to the audience. For example we can see in the beginning of the video at 0.09 seconds of the video there is an expensive car which the artist is sat within also throughout the whole video we can see many flashes in which the artists are all seen to be wearing very flash designer jewellery such as diamond necklaces at 0.47 seconds into the video also we can see images of weaponry within the video for instance 0.28 seconds in we can see a person chasing someone with a gun in his hand. These elements are all iconic to the music video as well as the genre of music video it is in this case the genre of music would be rap hip hop and RNB. It gives an image of the artist to the audience about what their like the audience feels more connected as they get to know them more and feel a better connection with the music video.

Star Persona
This technique is when the music industry uses a wide range of close ups on the main artist in order to highlight the main artist, the artist requires them to have close ups as it helps them to gain exposure of themselves as an artist which helps them to gain more publicity and wider ranges of audiences. Many music videos do this in order to get the main artist noticed by the audience and other labels who may want to sign them. For example la roux in for the kill has many close ups of the artist throughout the whole music video we can see close ups of her face which exposes herself as the artist towards the audience in which the music video is aimed along to or aimed at. The whole music video shows a lot of close ups or mid shots of the artist and not much shots of anything else this focuses the main attention to the artists alone and nothing else. These close ups of the artist within the music video helps to build a relationship between the artist and the audience.

contradicting
This technique is when the music video deliberately goes against the lyrics and mood of the song, for example if the lyrics were moody and angry then the music video would go against that and use happy non aggressive happy scenes which go against what is being sung by the artist or band. This is used to make it go against what people usually think the music video will be like it makes the music video more innovative and interesting compared to the same ordinary sorts of music videos which everyone comes up with when making their music videos. For example the music video made by

Voyeurism
This technique is the art of looking, music videos use certain things within their music video to grab people’s attention it is present in many music videos especially when women are placed within the music video. It is also referred to as the "male gaze" by Laura Mulvey. They are used in many music videos mostly in order to grab the attention of the audience which is largely male they use attractive women at 0.08 seconds and also at 0.24 seconds of the video. They use this to grab and sustain their attention throughout the whole music video. Although it is mostly women used for this technique there are some cases where there are males used for this technique in the modern age it is becoming more apparent and more of a normal thing within music videos. The audience for some music videos are largely males so this techniques aims to reach that audience and grab their attention by using the use of attractive women it keeps their interest throughout the video. This gives a degrading look for women this music video shows women to only be sexual objects and possessions of men they should only be used their good looks.

Intertextuality is when one media text references another media text, this can be reflected with the style of the music video. for example the song by robbie williams "you know" is seen to take scenes from the movie alice in wonderland through the style and setting of the music video. Throughout the music video we can see the artist robbie williams dressed as a rabbit from the movie alice in wonderland. Also at the end of the music video the usual logo of the circle with a lion is now replaced with the rabbit from the movie that it is relating to, this engages the audience as they know what the reference is to and they fell more connected with the music video and what it is trying to refer to in this case it is refering to the movie Alice in wonderland.

Style And Conventions Of Music Videos

Styles of music videos

There are many different styles of music videos within media, they contain certain conventions and are made in different styles, below are a range of examples of different types of styles within music videos.

Narrative

Certain music videos have narrative within the music video, a narrative within in a music video is when the music video has a story line to it, the lyrics and video conveys a story to the audience and is played in order from start to finish. The single "Turn Back" by K Koke has a clear story or narrative within the music video which is clear for the audience to see and understand. The institution uses this type of style or convention because it keeps the audiences interest to the song and music video,  there is a story line for the audience  to watch and follow as the music video goes on. The audience is interested to see what will happen to the person in the video and how the story line will end. For example in the music video below in the beginning  at 0.15 seconds into the video we can see the girl  walking into a rough block of flats it shows her to be in a rough area, this makes the audience interested as they want to know what will happen to the girl within the video it creates an interesting narrative for the audience to be able to follow.

Animation
This technique is used in many music videos; this technique is used to make the video more appealing to the audience as it is animated it is bright and colorful which makes it more appealing. It also allows the artist to have freedom with their music video as the animation allows them to create things for the video that they wouldn't be able to do in real life due to how hard the shots would be to achieve, this makes the video look more creative and more visually appealing for the audience. As well as this the animation help to tell the story connoted through the lyrics for example within the video I have chosen “payphone” by maroon 5 the lyrics tell a story about the artists life and the animation helps to tell it because the animation is what is being said in the lyrics which creates a clear narrative or story line for the audience to identify and understand this music video uses this technique within the music video well.

styles of music videos
Music videos performed as live concerts are when the artist is being filmed performing to the audience with the intention of directing their music to the  audience The effect this is intended to create is to make the video seem more real for the audience, if the music video is filmed while it is live it makes the audience feel as if they are watching a live performance which makes it more exciting and appealing to them they feel as if they are watching a live concert rather than watching a regular music video where everything is filmed individually rather than live.As live is when the artist or band makes seem as if they are performing to a audience when they are not actually performing live it is set up and they play towards the cameras with full intention of becoming a music video. The final effect is performance where the artist is filmed without having a audience with them it is only performed for the cameras for example Green Day american idiot in this music video the band is seen performing in a hall without an audience it is performed for the cameras with no audience.

surrealism
this effect is where the music video has something we wouldn't expect to see within a music video visually, like something we wouldn't expect to find in an ordinary music video, for example katy perry's music video wide awake we can see that she has used surrealism. we see things we wouldn't really expect to see in a normal pop song music video for example we can see she is in a weird setting within the video at 1.03 of into the we can see large bugs within the music video behind katy perry we wouldn't expect to these sorts of scenes within a normal pop genre styled music video this is a lot more abstract and original as compared to many other pop songs music videos. this gives the audience something new and original which they found weird but enjoyable because its something new and creative which the audience has not seen before this keeps the audiences attention as it keeps them interested with the music video throughout.

pastiche
This technique is when one media source refers back to another recognizable media source, it could have similar scenes or identical scenes from one media. for example micheal jacksons music video thriller pays homage to the styles of 1950's horror films the music video is in itself like a mini horror film which tries to recreate scenes and pay homage to horror films within that specific area for example within that era of horror films they had a lot of montage clips and people running through fog Michael jacksons thriller has many of these scenes recreated such as the scene where he is running through the fog at 3.11 of the video as well as this it has many cheesy stereotypical but also iconic scenes from horror films such as when he turns into a wear wolf at 2.26.This technique allows the music video to be able to pay homage to a specific time and era of horror films throughout the music video.

Pastiche as parody
this technique is when a media source makes fun or mimic  another media source, this technique is used within music videos to make the audience think  about how crazy the original music video is, it mocks the original media source for the way the video is created what happens within the video or they way in which the lyrics are created for example what the lyrics say, for example "bart Baker" has made a video which makes fun of the music video "blurred lines" by robin thicke the parody makes fun of the concept of the music video. this makes the audience think about the original video and how badly created and weird the original music video is, the video also mimics the lyrics it makes the audience think about the original lyrics and song it makes the original song seem weird and crazy towards the audience.
Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when one media text references another media text, this can be reflected with the style of the music video. for example the single "love story" by taylor swift references romeo and juliet the music video is made to mirror the story of romeo and juliet throughout the song and music video they make references to romeo and juliet with the lyrics and video. the music video has been made look like a more modernised version of the love story romeo and juliet. for example 26 seconds into the music video we can see a scene where the guy meets the girl in a masked party, the way they are dressed and meet each other is very similar to romeo and juliet. the lyrics also reference romeo and juliet it mentions that he is like romeo and she is juliet, this music video references romeo and julet many times throughout the music video and the lyrics.

Impressionist
this is an example of a music video with impressionism within it, the music video made by the red hot chili peppers "dani California" this music video has impressionism throughout the music video each of the characters have dressed up as different genres and different artists over the years, they dress as artist such as prince and many other famous artists and bands over the years. this shows to the audience the evolution of rock and rock bands throughout the years they dress up as these important figures within rock to show the evolution and movements within the rock genre and rock history it shows many different bands from different historical times throughout rock for the audience to see.

Music video techniques

Videos which have large number of cuts.

Music video name: Fall Out Boy The Phoenix

This music video uses a large range of cuts within the music video, during the duration of the song we can see that there is a lot more than 100 different and original cuts which they have used within the video. The intended use of this technique is that it makes the song  quite fast paced, the shots and cuts within the video are very quick and fast which matches the tempo and genre of the song, the genre in this case is rock which is usually very fast paced. This makes it more visually appealing as it is fast paced which makes the audience feel uplifted and energetic when they listen to the song. This ensures that their interest is kept with the music video as compared to if the cuts were slow paced and dull, this would not match the tempo and genre of the song. This technique has been very successful as the shots work well with the fast paced tempo of the song the shots work well to convey a story to the lyrics, all of the shots are fast paced original and appealing to the audience it grabs the audience's attention and works to sustain their interest with the song as well as the music video. This techniques works to engage the audience and to keep them entertained. However some music videos do not use this technique very well. Some music videos do not have a large range of cuts this video has less than 100 shots which is not enough. For example the music video created by Liam Lynch "United States of whatever" this song has a lack of shots as it has less than 100 different shots this makes the video lack variety as the shots are mostly repeated throughout which makes the music video look uninteresting and dull for the audience, this will make them lose interest as it does not engage the audience as well as the song created by
Fall out boy which had a large range of varied cuts.

Special Effects

Music video name: Kanye West Good life

This music video created by kanye west  "Good life" uses the technique of using special effects within the music video, throughout the video we can see brightly coloured writing in the back as kanye west writes they say the lyrics which are being said by the artist for example 0.02-0.05 seconds of the beginning of the video we can see these special effect. This technique is a good technique as it makes the music video more eye-catching and appealing towards the audience as it looks bright bold and colorful like 0.13 seconds we can see the writing makes the music video colorful, it offers the audience more options to the narrative, the special effects can sometimes help to replace shots that cannot be naturally filmed due to the difficulty of getting the shots. This music video has used special effects well because it is well edited it looks very smooth and flows well with the music video. Also sometimes these special effects can help to create a story about the artists life for example in this video the lyrics as well as the special effects tell the story of the artists background, where he grew up and how he became a success, it engages the audience as it more visually appealing  and fun  the writing is fun and bright rather than being dull for them which ensures that their interest will be sustained throughout the music video. An example of a music video with bad special effects

Cutting to the beat
This technique is used within music videos a lot, cutting to the beat is when the music videos matches or cuts with a specific element of the songs beat, this makes it more visually appealing as mostly dubstep use this effect, within this genre of music there are a lot of flashing lights and images which are fast paced which gets the audience excited it helps to build the tension of the music drop in the beat as well as the song. The effect of this technique is to make the video look more appealing and exciting the cuts are fast paced and brightly lit for the audience to see this keeps their attention to the music videos also the cutting to the beat helps to build suspense for the beats drop within a song which keeps the audiences attention to the music video

Varied camera language

Music videos use this technique; this technique is where they use a large range of different varied shots, the effect of this technique is to give the music video more variety with shots such as the shots from 0.05 seconds, 0.07 seconds  and 0.09 seconds they have a variety of creative shots. It would be more appealing and interesting as there is a large choice of shots with variation rather than ranges of shots which repeated themselves throughout the music video which is seen as dull boring and lacking imagination which makes the audience lose attention. This technique also helps to make the video look more professional videos lacking varied camera shots look very shaky and unprofessional as they lack ranges of shots which make the video lack variety for the audience to see.  The song “in for the kill” by la roux has many different camera shots and angles the shots look visually appealing for the audience as it has a range of varied shots rather than repeating the same shots over again which makes it looks repetitive and dull. Certain music videos don’t use this well which make them look unprofessional, music videos such as

Green screen

Music videos tend to use green screens within some of their shots to incorporate some scenes which in real life would be difficult to shoot for example a shot the artist going into space it allows the artist to be imaginative and creative with their music videos. Green screens are good methods when editing music videos because they help to save money because they can incorporate shots and locations without having to go there, for example if the artist wants to be put in a location instead of having to actually go to the location they are able to green screen it in which is easier. Green screening also allows the artist to film shots which he couldn't do in real life which makes the music video more creative and visually appealing for the audience it gives endless possibilities for the music video as well as for the artist. The song “all falls down” by kanye west uses a good example of green screening in the shot of him standing looking into the bathroom mirror at 1.51 seconds the mirror is not a real mirror but instead a green screen of the mirror this music video uses green screening well as it looks smooth and undetectable for the audience the green screen looks very realistic as it is done to a good standard. Other music videos use green screening however they do not use is well it is very shaky unclear and very obvious for the audience to see. An example would be the song “united states of whatever” by Liam lynch during his music video he uses green screens however they are not as well used as Kanye west’s green screens they are blurry unclear and highly noticeable for the audience for example at 0.06 seconds into the video he has shadows around his body which makes it clear that he has used green screen it is not as professional as Kanye west’s music video

Lip Syncing
Lip syncing is when the artist moves his lips in order with the lyrics without having to actually singing the lyrics. There are many music videos which use this effect if they are done they look smooth and undetectable the music video “when I’m gone” by Eminem they use the effect of lip syncing it is does well throughout the scenes the music video shows Eminem and his daughter lip syncing it is does well as there are no slip ups which makes it look as if he is singing live and not just lip syncing. Lip syncing gives a story to the video; by lip syncing the artist is able to place the lyrics over a part of the video to create a story it creates a narrative or story for the audience to follow for example in this music video the lyric all relate to what is happening within the music videos whatever the lyric says happens within the music video which creates a narrative for the audience which is easy to follow. It has been successful within this music video as it done to a good effect which makes it look believable as compared to videos which use this effect but use it badly where it is obvious and detectable for the audience to see an example of a music video which does this affect badly would be anna kendrick "cups" in this song and music video she lip syncs however it does not look as smooth as eminem she does not move her mouth as fluently to the lyrics as compared to eminem, the lyrics sound a lot louder and sound like they have more emotion she does not move her mouth and has a very monotone lip sync so it looks out of sync as compared with eminem where he puts more emotion with he moves his mouth more to create more emotion which makes it look more believable for the audience Anna kendrick has used this technique badly.
